More than a reminder to drive safely: bringing 12 road safety priorities into one coordinated regional conversation.
Every 23 hours, someone is injured in a collision on Niagara’s Regional roads. It’s a statistic that puts the scale of road safety into perspective and underscores why changing outcomes requires more than another reminder to slow down.
That’s why we’re proud to be working with Niagara Region to develop a coordinated series of educational campaigns supporting its Road Safety Strategic Plan (RSSP). The strategy takes a coordinated approach to road safety, combining infrastructure, enforcement, and policy with education that helps people better understand risk and make safer choices on the road.
Translating Road Safety Strategy into Public-Facing Campaigns
Over the course of the project, Cinnamon Toast will develop 12 road safety campaigns addressing priority topics across the Region, including distracted and aggressive driving, young drivers, intersections, rural roads, and other priority areas identified through the RSSP. The goal is to translate complex road safety issues into clear, easy-to-understand, easy-to-remember, and easy-to-apply communication.
One Region, Many Road Users
One of the most important considerations shaping the strategy is the diversity of Niagara commuters. Higher-volume urban roads can present very different risks than rural Regional roads, and a daily commuter may interact with the network very differently than a seasonal visitor.
Rather than repeating the same road safety message to everyone, the campaign strategy will align audiences, messaging, timing, creative, and communication channels with the specific issue being addressed. Each campaign will begin by considering who needs to hear the message, what they need to understand, and what will best support safer decision-making.
Coordinating the Conversation
Road safety is not a new conversation. Residents and visitors are already exposed to messages from police services, provincial organizations, schools, and community partners. With so many voices working toward the same goal, coordination matters. By planning all 12 campaigns as part of one connected annual program, Niagara Region can create a more structured and cohesive approach to road safety communications while keeping the bigger purpose in focus: protecting the people who move through Niagara every day and reducing the number of lives changed by preventable collisions.
