A hundred years of progress, ingenuity, and community deserves a celebration worthy of the people who made it possible. Happy 100th anniversary, IPIC!

A Profession That Moves Canada Forward

When we first began digging into the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada’s (IPIC) hundred-year history, we knew we had our research cut out for us. There was a century of people, ideas, milestones, and moments to unpack. The more we learned, the more we realized just how much there is to celebrate.

Intellectual property touches far more of Canadian life than most of us probably realize. From the discovery and purification of insulin to innovations like IMAX, the intellectual property profession has helped protect the ideas that change lives, shape industries, and carry Canadian ingenuity far beyond our borders.

Here’s to the People Powering Progress

Of course, IPIC’s story isn’t only about its milestones and groundbreaking legal cases. It’s about the people who have shaped the profession and the community they’ve built along the way. Their work supports Canadian businesses, strengthens our innovation economy, and helps ensure that the next big idea has room to make its mark.

A community grounded in integrity and intelligence, IPIC’s members share a commitment to continual learning, mentorship, volunteerism, and advancing the profession for those who follow. Through countless contributions, big and small, they’ve helped create a profession that is stronger because people care about its future.

The SOLD-OUT Centennial Conference (September 16–18, 2026) is a fitting reflection of that spirit. This is a community that thrives on building connections, sharing knowledge, and looking ahead together.

The Next 100 Years

A centennial is a moment to look back with pride, and forward with purpose.

At CT, we’ve been honoured and excited to play a part in IPIC’s centennial celebration, helping bring its history, people, and future into the spotlight. It’s been a privilege to celebrate the profession’s remarkable journey and help kick off its next century with a bang.

Here’s to the people who brought us here, the ideas that continue to shape our world, and the community that will carry intellectual property forward in Canada and beyond. Congratulations, IPIC, on 100 years — and here’s to the next century of protecting the original.
