Cinnamon Toast Partners with the Village of Daajing Giids on a Municipal Branding Project.
We’re proud to be working with the Village of Daajing Giids on the development of a new municipal brand identity, created to reflect the community’s evolving story, strong sense of place, and future direction.
Located on Haida Gwaii off the northern coast of British Columbia, Daajing Giids is a small, remote coastal community known for its natural beauty and creative spirit. In 2022, the municipality reinstated its ancestral name, Daajing Giids, replacing Queen Charlotte City. This marks a meaningful step toward reconciliation and a defining moment of transition for the community. Today, the municipality is looking to build a brand that reflects who it is now and where it is going.
A Community-First Approach to Branding
Municipal branding projects present a unique opportunity to unify communities around a shared sense of identity. For Daajing Giids, this opportunity is especially meaningful: the transition back to its ancestral name has created space for reflection, and the brand can help bring people together around a common story. A community-informed approach ensures that residents, businesses, staff, and partners see themselves reflected in the brand, increasing the likelihood it will be embraced and championed by the people it represents.
Over the coming months, Cinnamon Toast will lead a series of engagement and research activities, including interviews, workshops, and community conversations. These insights will directly inform the development of the brand story, messaging framework, and visual identity system, ensuring the final brand is grounded in real experiences and community voices.
Telling a Community’s Story, in Its Own Voice
For Daajing Giids, the new brand will aim to:
- Reflect the community’s creativity, resilience, and strong connection to place
- Support municipal communications and organizational clarity
- Strengthen recognition among partners, funders, and neighbouring communities
- Create a visual identity that is distinctive to Daajing Giids
- Build community pride and a sense of shared ownership in the brand
This project is ultimately about helping a community articulate who it is in its own voice, ensuring the tools exist to tell that story clearly and consistently for years to come.
We’re honoured to work alongside the Village of Daajing Giids as this work takes shape.
