Introduction

Founded in 1991, Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF) is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower children and advance the elements of a sustainable future through educational initiatives. LSF collaborates with businesses, government entities, school boards, universities, communities, educators, and youth throughout Canada to equip K-12 students with what they need to confront the growing economic, social, and environmental challenges of the 21st century.

To support teachers, LSF developed the Resources for Rethinking (R4R): a database that offers free or low-cost, peer-reviewed and curriculum-matched classroom resources.. In an effort to increase the awareness, reach, and visibility of R4R, LSF required the re-design of its primary and R4R brands and brand guide, and the design of a marketing and communications strategy.

Goals:

Modernize and enhance the LSF and R4R brands to increase reach and visibility with educators

Craft a brand guide to inform the correct usage of the LSF and R4R brands

Promote the distinct features of the R4R platform via a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy

Owl About Sustainability Education

As a symbol of wisdom and knowledge in sustainability education, an owl makes up the basis of R4R’s brand, and has been re-imagined into a more colourful, depth-filled icon.

Rich blues signify trust and dependability, and lend themselves to a playful secondary colour palette to enhance marketing and communication assets.

Learning In Motion

As an extension of the R4R brand and the marketing and communications plan to promote it, our team conceptualized and created a series of animated videos.

The lengthiest of them — a training video to guide users during the exploration of the platform — features caricatures and vibrant scenery to bring the video to life and empower quality sustainability teaching.
