Challenging Stereotypes and Dismantling Barriers

Formed in 1984, the World Blind Union (WBU) is known as the leading voice for an estimated 253 million blind and partially sighted individuals around the world. Its members, embodying 250 organizations from over 190 countries, share in advocacy efforts and are united in a common goal to ensure the inclusion, freedom, and independence of blind and partially sighted individuals.

Having significantly evolved throughout the years and as the organization aimed to position itself as a go-to resource for its members and the broader blind or partially sighted public, a need for a modernized brand identity and website experience emerged.

Celebrating Vibrancy, Fullness, and Resilience

With its intertwining lines flowing together around a globe, WBU’s logo — appearing as an abstract eye as a whole — represents connection and collaboration; global movement and inclusion. The brand’s primary rich blue colour palette conveys professionalism and credibility, and upholds high levels of accessibility.

Together Towards Inclusion

WBU’s tagline – Together Towards Inclusion – positions the organization as one of momentum in working together towards the rights and inclusion of blind and partially sighted individuals around the globe. It emphasizes the concepts of unity and inclusiveness.

Goals:

Deliver a brand to showcase WBU’s work — not the limitations of being blind or partially sighted

Design a website that provides advocacy resources and information to 190 member countries

Clarify WBU’s Member structure and categories

A Highly Accessible Solution

Designed and developed on WordPress to foster ease of use on both the front and back end, WBU’s website is streamlined, easy-to-navigate, and highly accessible given the needs of its blind and partially sighted audience members. It features a robust, filterable resource library to support informed action, collaboration, and capacity building across diverse contexts.
